The Ayrton MagicDot-SX is a highly refined, optically evolved version of the popular MagicDot R, offering impressive performance in a compact and versatile moving head. This new model builds on the groundbreaking features of its predecessor while incorporating significant advancements in its optical system. The MagicDot-SX is designed to meet the demands of both stage and architectural applications, combining a small footprint with powerful capabilities. The unit features ultra-rapid beam movement and continuous, unlimited rotation on both pan and tilt, offering unparalleled flexibility and dynamic movement for a variety of lighting designs.
The MagicDot-SX utilizes an innovative 8:1 optical zoom system, a significant upgrade from the fixed-focus optics in the original MagicDot. With a fixed transmitting lens and no visible moving parts, the optical zoom offers a beam aperture range of 5° to 40°, allowing the luminaire to seamlessly transition from an intense beam mode to a sweeping wash effect in an instant. This flexibility, combined with an optical efficiency of 75%, makes the MagicDot-SX a versatile tool that excels in creating both narrow, concentrated beams and wide wash effects. The 94 mm diameter collimator placed close to the transmitting lens ensures great compatibility with the MagicDot R units, making them ideal for use together in large-scale lighting arrays.
At the heart of the MagicDot-SX is its powerful RGBW LED light source, capable of delivering up to 1,500 lumens and an impressive luminous intensity of 136,000 cd in narrow beam mode. The LED source is designed to achieve a high colour rendering index, ensuring vibrant and accurate colour reproduction across the full colour spectrum. This powerful light engine is perfectly calibrated to render rich saturated hues and soft pastel colours with no visible colour shadows. The unit offers 4.29 billion colour options with 8-bit resolution, giving designers nearly unlimited colour combinations to work with, from precise white temperature presets to dynamic colour macro effects with adjustable speed.
In terms of movement, the MagicDot-SX is equipped with high-resolution stepper motors that provide precise and smooth positioning. The moving head offers automatic repositioning for both pan and tilt, with a 540° pan range and 270° tilt range. These features, combined with its continuous rotation on both axes, allow the MagicDot-SX to perform smooth and fluid movements for dynamic lighting effects. Whether creating sharp, focused beams or wide, sweeping washes, the unit provides full creative control over its positioning and movement.
The MagicDot-SX includes a range of useful effects to enhance its versatility. The built-in dimmer allows for 0-100% adjustment of light intensity without any colour variation, while the strobe effect can be fine-tuned from 1 to 25 flashes per second. The unit also features a fast, dynamic iris diaphragm with adjustable effects, a colour-mixing system for smooth transitions, and the ability to create 2D and 3D graphical effects. Additionally, the MagicDot-SX includes a collection of built-in pattern effects with speed and fade controls for scenic applications, enabling designers to quickly and easily incorporate complex lighting effects into their shows.
For control, the MagicDot-SX offers flexible DMX options, with support for both DMX 512 protocol via DMX cable or wireless control via the integrated CRMX TiMo RDM receiver from LumenRadio. It also features local DMX addressing through the built-in LCD control panel, and can be remotely addressed via an RDM DMX controller. The unit is compatible with DMX-RDM protocols, and offers multiple control modes including stand-alone, Master/Slave, and DMX modes with a range of 16 to 19 DMX channels. The MagicDot-SX is designed for ease of use and efficient control, allowing lighting designers to integrate it seamlessly into their setups.
The housing of the MagicDot-SX is constructed from durable aluminium and steel plates, with heatsinks made of aluminium to ensure efficient cooling during extended use. The unit's compact design is enhanced by fire-retardant ABS PC moulded covers, and the entire system is protected with an IP20 rating, making it ideal for indoor use. The fixture is designed with two side handles for easy transport and is equipped with four heavy-duty feet to provide stability when in use. The unit is also designed for quick and easy installation with a fastening bracket system that includes a rotating Omega 1/4 turn bracket, as well as locking fittings for secure mounting. Safety cable attachment points are provided for added security during rigging and installation.
With its compact size, powerful performance, and creative flexibility, the Ayrton MagicDot-SX is an exceptional tool for lighting designers seeking a versatile and reliable moving head unit for a wide range of applications, from live events to architectural installations.
