The BSS Audio BLU-50 is a versatile and compact 4-input/4-output networked signal processor, designed to deliver high-performance audio processing in a wide range of applications. With its half-rack width design, the BLU-50 offers a fixed I/O configuration of four analog inputs and four analog outputs, making it an ideal choice for small to medium-sized audio installations where space is at a premium. The BLU-50 features configurable signal processing and logic processing, along with BLU link, a low-latency, fault-tolerant digital audio bus that supports 48 channels. This makes the BLU-50 a powerful and flexible solution that can be seamlessly integrated into larger Soundweb London systems.
The analog inputs on the BLU-50 provide software-configurable gain in 6dB steps up to +48dB per channel, with software-selectable phantom power available on each input. Clear front panel LED indicators provide at-a-glance status for phantom power, signal present, and clip levels, allowing for quick and easy monitoring without the need for a PC. The BLU-50's BLU link audio bus uses standard Category 5e cabling, allowing for a connection distance of up to 100 meters between compatible devices. For longer distances, fiber media converters can be used to extend the range to over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) using single-mode fiber.
In terms of power, the BLU-50 offers multiple options for flexibility in installation. It can be powered using the included 12VDC power supply, or it can accept 12-48VDC via a terminal block connector. Additionally, the BLU-50 supports PoE+ (Power over Ethernet), allowing the device to be powered, configured, controlled, and monitored using a single Cat 5e cable via the Ethernet port. This makes installation easier and reduces the need for additional cabling, especially in scenarios where power outlets are limited.
The BLU-50 is fully configurable, controllable, and monitorable via HiQnet Audio Architect software, and it is compatible with other members of the Soundweb London family. The 48-channel BLU link bus on the BLU-50 represents channels 1-48 of the larger 256-channel BLU link bus when integrated with devices such as the BLU-800, BLU-320, BLU-160, and others. Up to 60 BLU link-compatible devices can share channels on a single bus, making the BLU-50 a scalable solution for growing audio networks.
Additional integration options are provided by the BLU-50's 12 Control Inputs, 6 Logic Outputs, and RS-232 port, allowing the device to interface with GPIO-compatible systems and third-party control systems. The Soundweb London Interface Kit, included with HiQnet Audio Architect installation, provides comprehensive documentation for seamless integration. The BLU-50 offers rack mount, surface mount, and desk mount installation options, ensuring that it can be easily installed in a variety of environments.
