The JBL Professional Control 23-1 is a compact and versatile surface-mount loudspeaker designed to deliver high-quality sound in a wide range of commercial and residential environments. Featuring a contemporary high-design appearance, the Control 23-1 combines advanced technology and premium construction to ensure exceptional sound performance for both indoor and outdoor applications. Whether for use in retail stores, restaurants, theme parks, educational facilities, or other public spaces, the Control 23-1 offers superb coverage, excellent durability, and a sleek aesthetic that integrates seamlessly with various decors.
At the heart of the Control 23-1 is a 3-inch woven fiberglass cone woofer, which ensures durability and delivers robust low-frequency performance. The woofer's cone is protected by JBL's exclusive Weather-Edge technology, providing extra protection for the driver from the elements, ensuring consistent performance even in harsh environments. The high-frequency driver consists of a 1/2-inch PEI diaphragm tweeter that is fluid-cooled for increased power handling and reliability, producing clear and smooth high frequencies. The combination of the woven fiberglass woofer and PEI diaphragm tweeter ensures natural, full-range sound reproduction with exceptional clarity and fidelity.
The Control 23-1 is designed for wide, consistent sound coverage with a 100° x 100° dispersion pattern, ensuring excellent sound distribution across the listening area. This wide coverage helps minimize the number of speakers needed for optimal sound coverage, reducing both material and labor costs during installation. The speaker is engineered to deliver high-fidelity sound with a frequency response range from 70 Hz to 20 kHz, making it suitable for background music, paging, and foreground applications. With a maximum SPL of 109 dB peak and 103 dB average continuous pink noise, the Control 23-1 is capable of providing high output in demanding environments.
One of the key features of the Control 23-1 is its built-in 70V/100V multi-tap transformer, making it perfect for use in distributed audio systems. The speaker also operates in low-impedance (8 ohms) mode, offering flexibility for various system configurations. The transformer comes with multiple tap settings (15W, 7.5W, 3W, 1.8W for 70V and 15W, 7.5W, 3W for 100V), making it adaptable to different wattage requirements. For enhanced performance, JBL recommends a high-pass filter at 70 Hz for 8-ohm operation or 70V/100V taps to ensure smooth, distortion-free sound reproduction.
Installation is made easy with the inclusion of JBL's InvisiBall mounting system, which provides both vertical and horizontal rotation. The system allows for precise speaker positioning without the need to remove the grille, which also provides a theft deterrent feature. Additionally, the Control 23-1 includes a removable locking connector with screw-down terminals, allowing for secure and easy wire connections. For added installation versatility, optional U-brackets (MTC-23UB1) and a ceiling-mount adapter (MTC-23CM) are available.
Constructed from high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) with a highly UV-resistant paint finish, the Control 23-1 is built to withstand outdoor conditions. The grille is heavily zinc-plated and finished with a durable polyester powder coating for rust resistance, ensuring long-term reliability and performance in both indoor and outdoor settings. The optional WeatherMax grille (MTC-23WMG-1) provides additional protection against extreme weather conditions, making the Control 23-1 suitable for more challenging environments.
