The Klark Teknik DN32-MADI is a high-performance expansion module designed to seamlessly integrate Midas M32 and Behringer X32 digital consoles with MADI (Multichannel Audio Digital Interface) systems. MADI is widely used in a variety of professional audio applications, including live sound, permanent installations, broadcasting, and studio recording. The DN32-MADI card facilitates the exchange of 32 input and 32 output channels of multichannel audio at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sample rates, allowing users to connect to MADI-compatible devices with ease. The module supports both AES10-1991 and AES10-2003 protocols, providing compatibility with up to 56 x 56 channels (AES10-1991) or 64 x 64 channels (AES10-2003), making it ideal for large-scale audio systems and high-channel count environments.
The DN32-MADI features two types of transmission: optical fibre and coaxial copper, providing flexibility and redundancy. The optical transmission is accomplished via an SC-Duplex connector using multimode fibre cable, allowing for high-quality signal transmission over long distances. The DN32-MADI has been successfully tested with multimode cable lengths up to 500 meters, and in some cases, transmission distances of up to 2 km may be achievable. For environments where fibre optic cable isn't available or preferred, the module also supports coaxial transmission via standard 75-ohm BNC connectors, with a maximum cable length of 100 meters. When both optical and coaxial interfaces are in use, the coaxial connection serves as a redundant failover link, automatically activating if the optical connection is lost, ensuring uninterrupted audio transmission.
The DN32-MADI is capable of handling up to 64 channels of input and output in total, with 32 of those channels allocated to the Midas or Behringer console, and the remaining 32 channels available for output to external MADI devices. This feature allows for flexible routing, with the ability to pass unused channels directly from the input stream to the output stream. Additionally, the DN32-MADI can operate in dual-console configurations, allowing two consoles to be combined via their DN32-MADI cards to create a total of 64 channels of audio for live sound reinforcement or recording. This makes it an invaluable tool for large events or complex installations that require high-channel-count configurations.
The module also provides precise clock synchronization, offering multiple options for selecting the clock source. The DN32-MADI can function as the clock master, or it can synchronize to an external clock through the BNC or fibre-optic input. The module's round-trip latency is an impressive <150 µs, ensuring that there is minimal delay in audio transmission, which is crucial for real-time applications such as live performance or broadcasting.
Designed for professional-grade audio systems, the DN32-MADI offers a robust, reliable solution for integrating Midas and Behringer consoles with MADI-equipped devices, providing high-quality audio, flexibility, and redundant operation. Whether used in touring sound, large installations, or broadcast environments, the DN32-MADI ensures high-performance audio networking, enabling seamless integration with the most demanding audio systems.
